Horse riding is a hugely popular leisure activity for people in County Wexford. Ballycanew Horse Riding Centre is located less than 15 minutes from Courtown. Fully qualified instruction is given in all aspects of equestrian sport. Ballycanew Riding Centre caters for all age groups from beginner to the very advanced. Facilities include a floodlight arena, a cross country course, farm rides, small arena for children/adults, trail rides and beach rides. Activities include cross country rides, dressage, group lessons, hacking, individual lessons, pony camp, show jumping and half day trail riding. It is AIRE / Bord Failte approved

We have 10 quality stables, a sanded arena and ample secure grazing. We provide full, part, grass and pony livery as well as beach and woods trekking and riding lessons. Special rates are available for our B&B guests. It is the ideal venue for children's birthday parties with pony rides, games, dancing, treasure hunts and delicious food

Lessons are €25 per hour
We also provide Hacking/Trekking onto the beach and through Courtown Woods for €25 per hour

Butterfly Farm Equestrian Centre

Operated under the personal supervision of the owner's, Alma & Michael Byrne, Butterfly Farm offers the ideal conditions and encouragement to get started, or to expand your knowledge, in the exciting world of horses and ponies. Kia Ora Mini Farm is a family run open farm in Gorey, Co. Wexford where adults and children get up close and personal with all of the usual farm animals together with some of the more exotic such as alpacas, emus, parrots etc.. Activities at the farm include holding and feeding the animals, fire engine ride with fun sing along songs, Giant Buzz Off Game, Milking Cow, Sandpits, Rough Rider Track, Football Pitch, Colouring Area, Ride on Tractors and Trikes and our new addition the Maze with activity panels and slide.

 

We offer free car parking in our large carpark and are fully wheelchair/buggy accessible. Picnics and cameras are always welcome at Kia Ora Mini Farm and we also cater for large groups/school tours and birthday parties.

 

There is also a selection of old farm machinery on display. Children’s lunches are catered for by request, as are
 birthdays and other parties. Parents can have coffee in the unique Coffee Shed while their children are looked after. Wheelchair Friendly. Coming up to Christmas, Santa is also a familiar face at the farm and we transform the entire farm into a Winter wonderland to give your child the real christmas experience they deserve.

A unique early 17th Century watermill just four miles from Gorey, off the Gorey - Carnew road. This corn grinding mill has been fully restored to working order and is on view to visitors, with guided tours and wholesome food being served in the kiln loft. An added feature of a garden has recently been developed along side the mill.

This project which has been lovingly restored by the owner over the past four years was highly commending in the Henry Ford Conservation Awards in 1996 and was just pipped for first prize in the Heritage Category.

For the 20th century visitor, a watermill like the one at the quaint village of Craanford is well worth a visit.

shrulepetfarm2014cShrule Pet Farm is a pet farm comprising all the usual farm animals with emphasis on breeding and preservation of various types of poultry and a varied selection of sheep breeds. Many animals may be handled under supervision, and during guided tours to the deer enclosure, the deer may be hand-fed.

An attractive playground will occupy the children whilst parents enjoy light refreshments. School tours are catered for at reduced rates and free worksheets are available to enhance a child's knowledge and understanding of farm animals and to assist in classroom discussion.
